Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics (SGTF)
is a material supplier and industry leader in the manufacture
and distribution of reinforcements and fabrics for composite
applications. SGTF Fabrics for Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP)
serve as the foundation for high strength plastic products
ranging from surfboards to autos and are based on high-strength
glass, polyester, aramid, carbon, hybrid, and proprietary fibers
that provide strength and flexibility in demanding applications.
The SGTF
FRP composite strengthening system is comprised of a high
performance cementitious mortar combined with a reinforcement
mesh, which is a grid made from alkali-resistant glass fibers.
The grid has approximately 1-inch openings and weighs
approximately 9 oz per square yard. This system is applied to
the full wall surface in multiple layers. An initial layer of
matrix is applied to the wall surface, into which the
reinforcement grid is troweled. Subsequent layers of mesh and
matrix are applied, producing a multi-layered laminated surface.
The applied system requires 28 days of curing time to achieve
its full strength potential.
